    Nov 25th, 2024

In a significant boost to its agricultural sector, Cambodia has produced 840,000 tons of cashew nuts in the first ten months of 2024, marking a remarkable 26% increase compared to last year. Mr. Uon Siloth, President of the Cambodian Cashew Association, announced this. Mr. Siloth highlighted that over 790,000 tons of these cashew nuts have been exported to Vietnam, generating an impressive revenue of $1.11 billion—up 31% year-on-year. Additionally, the overall value of cashew exports has risen by 9% compared to 2023. The Cambodian Cashew Association is also exploring new markets, exporting processed cashew nuts to China, Japan, and Europe, albeit in smaller quantities. This expansion signals a growing demand for Cambodian cashews on the international stage. Mr. Siloth further emphasized the positive outlook for Cambodia’s cashew sector, noting increased interest from companies in China and Korea, which are looking to import raw cashew nuts for processing. Cashews are considered a vital agricultural product and a strategic crop for the country. Cambodia boasts over 580,000 hectares dedicated to cashew cultivation, with an average yield of approximately 1.5 tons per hectare. This robust production capacity positions Cambodia as a key player in the global cashew market.
