    Aug 9th, 2025

Ministry of Industry and Trade warns of risk of cargo ships being attacked in the Red Sea The Import-Export Department (Ministry of Industry and Trade) has just sent a dispatch to businesses and associations warning of the risk of cargo ships being attacked in the Red Sea area. Official dispatch sent to import-export industry associations, associations operating in the logistics sector and import-export enterprises. According to the Import-Export Department, on July 27, Houthi movement spokesman Yahy Saree announced the expansion of the campaign in the Red Sea. Specifically, this organization will attack any ship owned by a company related to Israeli ports, regardless of nationality, flag or destination. The statement was confirmed by international news agencies Reuters, AP, YnetNews, Xinhua. Citing information from the Official Dispatch of the Vietnamese Embassy in Iran, the Import-Export Department informed that in the coming time, attacks in the Red Sea, the Bab el-Mandeb Strait, the Suez Canal and the Gulf of Aden may increase, negatively affecting Vietnam's import-export supply chain, especially in the fields of logistics, maritime transport, and export of goods to Europe, the Middle East and Africa. In addition, some Vietnamese enterprises cooperating with international shipping lines may be indirectly affected if that shipping line becomes a target of the Houthi forces. In the face of the above situation, the Import-Export Department recommends that import-export industry associations, associations operating in the logistics sector and import-export enterprises pay attention to the following issues. First, proactively review supply chains and shipping schedules, especially if they involve the Red Sea region and high-risk ports. Second, closely coordinate with logistics partners, shipping lines and marine insurance to assess risks and have timely response plans. Third, promptly report to the authorities if any incidents arise that affect import and export activities.
