  • Cashew Marketing: The Booko Sub-Prefect's Winning Recipe to Relieve Producers

    May 13th, 2025

Cashew nut producers in the Booko sub-prefecture, in the Koro department, Bafing region, can breathe a sigh of relief. This comes after the group sale of cashew nuts organized on May 8, 2025 in this locality with a view to helping them sell their harvests at the guaranteed minimum price of 425 FCFA per kilogram, set by the government. This action follows the efforts of Sub-Prefect Yé Seomble Mesmin, with buyers and the Cotton-Cashew Industry Council, to combat the observed slump in sales of this commodity in his constituency and thus relieve the burden on farmers. It should be noted that the act is part of a strategy to promote local production and protect farmers' incomes. On this occasion, welcoming the operation, the producers expressed their gratitude to the Sub-Prefect for his commitment to them as well as the stakeholders in the sector for their availability. For its part, the administrative authority, while welcoming this successful outcome, urged producers to dry and sort their crops thoroughly and to use only jute bags. It is through this republican sacrifice, it continued, that they will be able to honor the efforts of President Alassane Ouattara aimed at improving the quality of cash crops, including cashew nuts, on the international market. The Civil Administrator also recommended that they avoid selling their products at low prices to protect themselves against unscrupulous buyers. It is worth mentioning that the cities of Touba and Ouaninou have already benefited from these group sales. Let us also recall that last February, Sub-prefect Yé Seomble Mesmin had already distinguished himself in the Bafing region for having thwarted an attempt to smuggle 14 tonnes of dried cocoa beans outside the national borders.
