Cashew, an economic lever for Burkina Faso Burkina Faso 's economy relies largely on local processing of cashew products. Thus, to ensure the success of the 2025 campaign, the country has set the price of cashew nuts at 385 FCFA/kg, a rate that could increase this year's revenue. In addition, the cashew sector represents a source of income for 243,971 households, with an average annual production of 200,000 tonnes over the last five years. The country has 26 cashew processing units, employing nearly 9,580 people, more than 92% of whom are women. However, despite this infrastructure, Burkina Faso only processes a small part of its production. In fact, only 16,333 tonnes are processed locally each year, while most of the harvest is exported in its raw state. Cashew production report in 2023 In 2023, the cashew nut sector ranked second among agricultural products exported by Burkina Faso, with 124,900 tons of raw cashew nuts sold abroad. These exports generated an income of 60.9 billion FCFA. In addition, local processing generated 11.5 billion FCFA in export revenue.
