The Cashew Nut Association of Cambodia (CAC) and the Vietnam Association of Cashew held a crucial meeting in Ho Chi Minh City to strategize on improving the business of Raw Cashew Nut (RCN). Vietnam stands as the world leader in cashew kernel production, yet it currently produces only 300,000 metric tons annually. Vietnam requires a substantial 3 million metric tons of RCN each year to fulfill its processing and export demands. It is imperative that we collaborate effectively to meet these needs and enhance our business opportunities. In 2024, Cambodia would assert itself as the leading raw cashew nuts (RCN) supplier to Vietnam’s cashew industry for the last 11 months. As the world’s second-largest producer of RCN, Cambodia is positioned to meet the demand despite having only a limited number of processing plants operating domestically. This situation necessitates strong partnerships with large processors from Vietnam, India, China, and other regions to secure significant volumes of RCN. Price instability and quality concerns with RCN have previously been unacceptable, and both parties are committed to addressing these issues through a mutually beneficial business model. The Vietnam Cashew Association (Vinacas) will actively send representatives and members interested in purchasing large quantities of RCN to engage with the Cashew nut Association of Cambodia (CAC) to establish deeper and more sustainable cooperation, as outlined in the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed by both parties in early 2022.
