The Ministry of Finance issued Circular No. 40/2014/TT-BTC guiding special preferential import tax for imported goods originating from the Kingdom of Cambodia. Accordingly, the Circular stipulates that goods originating from Cambodia imported into Vietnam enjoy a special preferential import tax rate of 0%, specifically for the following items: Coconuts, Brazil nuts and cashew nuts, fresh or dried, whether or not shelled or peeled; Dates, figs, pineapples, avocados, guavas, mangoes and mangosteens, fresh or dried; Melons (including watermelons) and papayas, fresh; Rice; Molasses obtained by the extraction or refining of sugar; Tapioca products and substitutes therefor prepared from starch, in the form of flakes, grains, pearls, sifted powder or in similar forms; Thus, cashew nuts imported from Cambodia and ASEAN countries have a 0% import tax, while imports from non-ASEAN markets have a 5% tax. Vietnam is currently the world's leading country in exporting cashew nuts, especially cashew kernels, accounting for more than 80% of the world's total cashew nut exports. Vietnamese cashew kernel products are present in more than 90 countries and territories. Despite being the world leader in exports, Vietnam still imports a large amount of raw cashew nuts for processing. This shows that the Vietnamese cashew industry has developed strongly in processing and exporting, but there is still potential for further development in the cashew industry value chain.
