Nigeria is gearing up to host the 32nd Afreximbank Annual Meetings, a major event scheduled to take place from 23 to 28 June 2025 in Abuja. The major gathering, which is expected to be the largest in the Bank’s history, is expected to bring together over 6,000 delegates, including heads of state, government officials, entrepreneurs, experts and investors from the African continent, the CARICOM region and around the world. To this end, a host country agreement for the organization of this event was signed on February 12 between the Nigerian government and Afreximbank. The Minister of Finance, Wale Edun, affirmed that this event symbolizes Nigeria's commitment to boosting intra-African trade and positioning the country as a driver of the continent's economic transformation. Benedict Oramah, President of Afreximbank, for his part, commended Nigeria’s unwavering support, recalling that the country is one of the major beneficiaries of the Bank’s financing with cumulative disbursements of over $52 billion. He also highlighted the strategic projects supported by Afreximbank in Nigeria, including the African Medical Centre of Excellence (AMCE) and the African Quality Assurance Centre (AQAC). Summit to boost trade and investment in Africa The Afreximbank Annual Meetings are one of the most anticipated gatherings on the continent, promoting economic policy discussions and business opportunities in Africa. This 2025 edition will feature high-level debates, thematic conferences and networking sessions focused on trade finance and the economic development of the continent. This year’s theme, “Building the Future on Decades of Resilience,” highlights the progress made over the past three decades and the strategies needed to navigate a rapidly changing global environment. The African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) Agreement will take center stage in the discussions, highlighting its potential to structurally transform African economies. This 32nd edition follows on from the success of previous assemblies, notably that of 2024 held in Nassau, Bahamas, which attracted more than 4,000 participants, including around twenty heads of state and many influential figures. Afreximbank's history is also linked to Nigeria, where the Bank was founded in 1993. Today, the country remains its second largest shareholder and a key strategic partner.
