  • Cashew exports to China have surpassed $1 billion for the first time.

    Jan 8th, 2026

China surpasses the US to become Vietnam's largest cashew nut consumer market. Previously, the US was the only market where Vietnam's cashew exports exceeded $1 billion per year, with the most recent milestone reached in 2024 ($1.154 billion). By 2025, China has also reached the "billion-dollar" mark. According to the Import-Export Department (Ministry of Industry and Trade), in the first 11 months of 2025, Vietnam's cashew exports to China reached 159.2 thousand tons, worth 1.024 billion USD, an increase of 35.5% in volume and 48.9% in value compared to the same period in 2024. Previously, the highest export value for cashews to China was $746 million in 2024. Not only has China become a "billion-dollar" market, but for the first time, it has also surpassed the US to become the largest market for Vietnamese cashew nuts. In the first 11 months of 2025, while cashew exports to China increased sharply, reaching $1.024 billion, exports to the US decreased by 26% in volume and 17% in value, reaching only 133,000 tons and $887 million. Despite a decline in exports to the US, cashew exports still performed well last year thanks to strong growth in the Chinese market. In the first 11 months of 2025, cashew exports reached 697,000 tons, valued at US$4.752 billion, an increase of 3.9% in volume and over 19% in value compared to the same period in 2024. Cashew export revenue after 11 months of 2025 has far surpassed the record achieved in 2024 of US$4.34 billion.
