  • Togo: Stricter regulation of cashew marketing

    Mar 18th, 2026

As part of efforts to develop the cashew sector, the Ministries of Economy and Strategic Monitoring and of Agriculture now require all buyers or cooperatives to deliver at least one-third of the collected or purchased cashew nuts to national processing units. The selling price will be determined by the interprofessional organization. Buyers or cooperatives that fail to comply with this requirement will be temporarily excluded from export operations. However, an exceptional exemption may be granted in cases of difficulties attributable to the processors. Furthermore, the export of cashew nuts will now be subject to approval issued by the Cashew Sector Coordination Committee. Shipments lacking proper documentation will be seized, with the exporter bearing the costs and damages. This initiative complements and reinforces Interministerial Decree No. 007 of February 28, 2008, which already established the rules for marketing cashew nuts in Togo. Decree No. 0029 places particular emphasis on the obligation to supply a portion of production to national processing units, and more strictly regulates exports, in order to promote local processing and protect producers.
