Products from the Kerala State Cashew Development Corporation (KSCDC) will now be available through K-Stores across the State. This initiative is being launched in collaboration with the Department of Food and Civil Supplies. “The decision follows the positive response to the Onam kits, which included cashew nuts from the Corporation and Capex for making payasam. This gave the general public a chance to experience the superior quality and taste of these products firsthand, leading to a significant increase in demand. This surge in public interest was the primary inspiration for making the products permanently available through the K-Store network, said S. Jayamohan, chairperson of KSCDC. The official Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for this initiative was exchanged between Industries Minister P. Rajeev and Food and Civil Supplies Minister G.R. Anil during the Cashew Conclave held in Kollam. Advertisement While Kollam’s cashew nuts are globally renowned for their superior quality, the industry has recently faced a significant crisis. “A recent Central government agreement led to the import of low-quality kernels, which subsequently caused a drop in the prices of high-quality local produce. To protect the industry and support consumers, the Corporation is launching this venture. Through this, KSCDC will provide authentic, high-quality cashew nuts at fair prices,” he said. The official inauguration of the sales through K-Stores will take place on January 13 at Puthannada K-Store premises in Thekkevila. Minister G.R. Anil will inaugurate the event, which will be presided over by M. Naushad, MLA. Kollam Mayor A.K. Hafeez will officiate the first sale while N.K. Premachandran MP, Corporation chairperson S. Jayamohan, Controller of Rationing C.V. Mohanakumar, District Supply Officer G.S. Gopakumar and councillor Deepika Pramoj will also attend the event.
