  • Cambodia cashew exports boost Vietnam sourcing flexibility

    Oct 20th, 2026

A surge in Cambodian raw cashew nut exports is providing Vietnamese processors greater leverage when negotiating prices with African suppliers, according to industry figures. Data from the Cashew Nut Association of Cambodia shows exports reached 1.03 million metric tonnes in the first half of 2026, a 28% year-on-year increase. Most shipments went to neighbouring Vietnam, where Cambodian nuts accounted for 54.2% of total raw cashew imports by mid-July. The steady supply gives processors stronger bargaining power over quality metrics and landed costs, directly impacting demand for African crops. Shipments from Nigeria to Vietnam fell 29% to 49,507 tonnes in May as buyers sought more competitively priced origins. However, market analysts note that Cambodian supply influence remains seasonal. By August, Cambodia’s share of Vietnam’s monthly imports dropped to 8.8% as West African producers, including Côte d’Ivoire and Ghana, took over prime market share.
