There is a need to establish an independent cooperative or production company of cashew farmers to provide an international market for cashew nuts, which support the economy of Konkan. If a complete value chain is established, including direct purchase of cashew seeds from farmers, collective storage, grading according to quality, processing, branding and export, cashew farmers can get better prices and the local processing industry can also get stable raw materials. Cashew nut processors in the district are currently facing challenges such as availability of raw materials, lack of capital, lack of storage and fluctuations in the market. Cashew nuts have to be purchased in large quantities during the season. However, since sales take time, the problem of working capital arises. Therefore, there is a demand from the processors that a product collateral loan scheme should be implemented. Taluka-wise CFC demand There is a demand for setting up Common Facility Centers (CFCs) and modern godowns in every taluka to integrate modern technology into the cashew processing industry. If these centers provide facilities for sorting, processing, packing and quality inspection of cashews, even small processors can benefit from it. The need for a 'Konkan Kaju' brand To create a separate identity for cashew nuts in Konkan, there has been a demand to develop a brand under the name 'Kokan Kaju' and sell it in the domestic and international markets. Currently, instead of sending raw materials abroad, processing them within the district and bringing finished cashew nuts and value-added products to the market can result in more value addition. Market power for farmers Currently, due to financial necessity, farmers often have to sell cashew seeds only during the season. If purchased and stored through a collective organization, there is an opportunity to sell when the market price is favorable. Also, if processed and sold directly through the organization, the chain of intermediaries can be reduced and the benefits can be passed on to the producers. Rather than just providing subsidies to the cashew industry, there is a need to set up an integrated system of production, storage, processing, branding and export. If such a system is created by coordinating between farmers and processors, Konkan cashew can reach the global market more efficiently. The main demands of the process holders... Separate cooperative societies or FPOs for cashew producers should be established. Modern warehouses and CFCs should be set up in every taluka. A collateral loan scheme should be implemented for cashew seeds. A separate brand 'Kokan Cashew' should be developed. Grants and technical assistance should be provided for modern processing machinery. Export facilities and markets should be provided to promote cashew processing.
