  • VINACAS leaders meet with the General Department of Customs on some problems of the Vietnamese cashew industry

    <p>On June 25, 2024, the VINACAS Working Group, including Mr. Bach Khanh Nhut, Permanent Vice Chairman and Mr. Dang Hoang Giang, General Secretary, came to work with the General Department of Vietnam Customs. On the side of the General Department of Customs, Mr. Au Anh Tuan, Director of the Department of Customs Supervision and Management chaired the meeting with the participation of representatives of the Anti-Smuggling Investigation Department, the Import-Export Tax Department, the Post-Clearance Inspection Department, and the Legal Department.&nbsp;</p> <p>&nbsp;</p> <p>&nbsp;Measures to handle foreign raw cashew suppliers who violate contracts signed with Vietnamese partners: Goods have arrived at the port, have been put into bonded warehouses or are being transported by sea but unilaterally terminate the contract, take the goods and sell them to other buyers at higher prices.</p> <p>- Measures to control and limit the import of cashew nuts with shell and white kernels into Vietnam because of unfair competition with Vietnamese cashew processors, the risk of losing the reputation of the Vietnamese Cashew brand; even losing the position of the Vietnamese Cashew industry in the international market; affecting the jobs and lives of hundreds of thousands of workers, laborers and cashew farmers.&nbsp;</p> <p>- Measures to remove difficulties for businesses when importing raw cashews from African countries for processing and export but encountering difficulties, unable to process, requesting to transfer to domestic sale. However, because African countries have not registered with the competent Vietnamese authority on importing products of plant origin, businesses cannot transfer to domestic sale, leading to large capital stagnation and risk of bankruptcy.&nbsp;</p> <p>Agencies under the General Department of Customs have exchanged relevant information, noted the recommendations of VINACAS to consider the handling direction and at the same time said: Ready to coordinate with VINACAS to organize conferences to meet with businesses in the Cashew industry to listen to the reflections from the actual production and business activities, and at the same time guide the issues that businesses need to grasp to operate in accordance with the provisions of law. Mr. Anh Tuan, Director of the Customs Supervision and Management Department emphasized: The General Department of Customs will accompany businesses and Associations to remove difficulties and obstacles. After the meeting, the General Department of Customs will have a document recommending the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development and the Ministry of Industry and Trade on a number of problems related to management policies under the authority of the two ministries.</p>
