<p></p><p>The process of selling cashew nuts in Mozambique will be divided into phases, the first being reserved for domestic traders, the director of the Cashew Development Institute (INCAJU) recently said in Nampula.</p> <p>Ilídio Bande, who was speaking at the second meeting of the Cashew Committee, which brings together all actors in the value chain of this cash crop, added that foreign traders will only be able to participate in the sales and marketing process in the second and third stages. </p><p>The president of Incaju, quoted by the AIM news agency, said that these changes are part of a new regulation that “soon” will provide a framework for the sale and remaining value chain of cashew nuts in Mozambique. </p><p>Bande also said his institute is proposing the definition of the reference price to ensure that both producers and the industry make a profit. </p><p>“Mozambique has a [cashew] industry in the recovery phase and the government has a duty to support it, making sure that prices do not exceed what industrialists can afford,” said Incaju’s director general. </p><p>Bande added that the production of the current campaign should reach 140,000 tons, an annual increase of 7.0%. </p><p>Figures provided by the Cashew Industrial Association (Aicaju) show that there are 13 processing plants in Mozambique, employing around 20,000 workers.<br></p><p></p>
