    Feb 22nd, 2024

The representative of the Director General of the Cotton and Cashew Council, Aké Nongbé Édouard, underlined that Côte d'Ivoire intends to position itself among the reference countries in terms of nut quality raw cashew. Wednesday February 21, 2024, during an awareness meeting for stakeholders in the cashew sector in Bako, located 14 kilometers from Odienné Mr. Aké, also head of department within the Cotton and Cashew Council, insisted on the importance of clean production of cashew nuts, properly dried and sorted, with a high kernel yield index (KOR), in order to strengthen the position of Côte d'Ivoire on the international market. He recalled that the quality of raw cashew nuts is a determining factor in the sale and purchase price, both nationally and internationally, and called on all stakeholders in the sector to play their role in this process. Aké Nongbé noted that the national index, which measures almond yield, increased from 46 in 2013 to 48 in 2021, before dropping to 46.9 in 2022 and 2023. Comparatively, countries like Guinea-Bissau and Mozambique shows indices between 49 and 51. The reform of the cashew sector adopted in 2013 by the Ivorian government, in accordance with the wishes of the President of the Republic, Alassane Ouattara, has boosted the development of this sector. As a result, Ivory Coast became the world's leading producer of cashew nuts in 2015, with production exceeding 702,510 tonnes. This production has continued to grow to reach more than 1.2 million tonnes in 2023, representing almost a quarter of global cashew production.
