The activities of the monitoring and awareness committees on the quality of cashew nuts in the Tchologo region were launched for the 2024 campaign in the Tchologo region, during a workshop organized Thursday February 22, 2024 in Ferkessédougou by the Cotton and Cashew Council. The Director of Production at the Cotton and Cashew Council, Dr Ouattara Mariam, explained that the objective of this workshop was to take stock of the functioning of the monitoring committees, to identify their difficulties and to propose solutions. for a better approach and good orientation of cashew marketing monitoring activities. It was also an opportunity to raise awareness among stakeholders and professionals in the cashew sector about better quality cashew nuts. “This culture is one of the pillars of our economy. It is therefore important that the monitoring committees are better equipped and participate intensively against its fraudulent escape to the outside world,†said Dr Ouattara. After the presentation of the 2023 activities of the monitoring committees at the regional and national level, the prefect of the Tchologo region, Jean Pierre Sory, invited all stakeholders in the sector to support these committees in their missions and to strengthen awareness on the quality of cashew nuts. According to the general management of the Cotton and Cashew Nut Council, the monitoring committees were established by an interministerial decree on March 25, 2014. Chaired by the department prefects, their main mission is to monitor the rules relating to marketing cashew. In 2023, more than 30,000 T of cashew nuts will have been marketed in the Tchologo region. For the 2024 campaign launched last week, the farm gate price of a kilogram of cashew nuts is set at 275 FCFA.
