<p>The Bantakal-based SMV Institute of Technology and Management (SMVITM) has signed an MoU with a manufacturing unit, Vinayaka Engineering Works (VEW), in order to further academic work and research activities of its Research and Development Centre for Technology Upgradation of Cashew Processing Equipment. <br></p> <p>According to a press release issued by the institute here on Tuesday, the Mangaluru-based VEW has recognized SMVITM as its academic and research partner. VEW produces cashew processing equipment and machinery. The MoU allows the institute’s students to pursue internships, project works and do industrial visits at VEW. As a research partner, SMVITM will also get assistance in research, design and development activities. <br></p> <p>The recently inaugurated centre at SMVITM has already initiated its activities, responding to the needs of local cashew processing industries. It is sponsored by Karnataka Council for Technology Upgradation (KCTU). Both the KCTU and SMVITM have contributed an equal amount for setting up the centre. <br></p><p>Student involvement <br></p> <p>The MoU between the industry and institution would help in furthering research in the field through students’ involvement utilising the experience of industry experts and knowledge of faculty members of the institute. <br></p> <p>Vishwavallabha Tirtha Swami, president of SSMV Education Trust, Ratnakumar, Secretary, Radhakrishna S. Aithal, Director of Institute, Thirmaleshwar Bhat, Principal, Vivekanand Huddar, Head of the Department of Mechanical Engineering, and Mohan Rao J. from VEW were present during the signing of the MoU.<br></p>
