  • KSCDC looking for markets in Russia and China

    <p></p><p>&nbsp;The Kerala State Cashew Development Corporation Limited is seeking markets in Russia and China for a variety of its products, the company said. The Chairman of the company, R Chandrasekharan, said the Centre has offered help in finding markets in Russia and China for cashew and its various value added products like cashew bits, cashew kernels, cashew powder, cashew soup and cashew vita. </p><p>"We are seeking markets in China and Russia for cashew and its value added products. Commerce Minister Anand Sharma has agreed to provide us maximum support," he told reporters after meeting Ministers including Sharma, Agriculture Minister Sharad Pawar and Women and Child Development Minister Krishna Tirath. Chandrasekharan sought their support for the overall improvement of the sector. The corporation is also playing a pivotal role in development of the cashew industry in the country. </p><p>He said a survey conducted by the Indian Institute of Foreign Trade has found good potential for cashew products in China and Russia. Chandrasekharan said the Women and Child Development Ministry has offered a financial assistance of ` 25 Crore for providing uniforms to cashew workers, majority of them are women. </p><p>Pawar, who is also holding the portfolio of Food Processing Industries, has sought proposal from the Corporation after it urged support for the food products industry in producing various value added products from cashew, he said. Chandrasekharan said efforts are being taken to make the Corporation, which has a turnover of over ` 250 crores, profit-making within a period of three years. </p><p>He said the corporation is running 30 cashew factories all over the Kerala, employing more than 20,000 workers and 1500 staff members Chandrasekharan, who is also a Congress party leader from Kerala, met UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi seeking her help for clearing the decks for setting up a Cashew Board headquartered at Kollam in Kerala to promote production and export of the commodity. </p><p>Kollam is well known for cashew processing.<br></p><p></p>
