<p></p><p>The Cote d'Ivoire government has vowed to fight against the illegal export of cashew nuts to neighbouring countries after output in the last harvest season hit 100,000 tons, representing a quarter of the national production, Xinhua news agency reported.According to Bamba Mamadou, president of the Administration Council of the Cotton and Cashew Nuts Authority (ARECA), Bondoukou is not only the biggest producer of cashew nuts in Cote d'Ivoire, but also the region with the highest cases of fraudulent exports of cashew nuts to neighbouring Ghana due partly to the porous border.</p> <p>"This situation is worrying for the state," Mamadou said, adding that last year, less than 280,000 tons of cashew nuts were registered at the Abidjan port, while Ghana, whose national production is estimated at 25,000 tons, exported close to 125,000 tons of cashew nuts.During a three-day workshop in Bondoukou which ended on Sunday, strategies were discussed to end or limit illegal cashew nuts exports.The workshop also discussed the reasons behind cashew nuts being illegally exported to neighbouring countries, in particular to Ghana, and identified measures to fight against this phenomenon, as well as strengthening regulatory measures to ensure a proper harvest this year.Cote d'Ivoire is a major cashew nuts producer in Africa. </p><p> </p><br><p></p>
