The President of the National Cashew Association of Nigeria NCAN, Mr Ojo Ajanaku, has denied the news of an interim president appointed to take over from him. Briefing newsmen in Abuja, Mr Ajanaku maintained that there was no such development, stating that the constitution of the Association recognizes four-year tenure for any elected president, of which he had barely spent two years. Mr. Anajaku, explained that he assumed office as president of the association on the 17th of February, last year and had no plans of stepping down. “They don’t even have the constitutional right to declare any member as interim president of the association, the constitution we are currently using which is under review, states that I will be in office for three years, this is because I came into office on 17th of February, 2021 and my tenure is supposed to enlapse 17th February, 2024″. “So I was caught unaware when I saw some unverified news on some newspaper publication and online platforms that one Mr Stephen Ahiaba had been nominated by the Kogi State Chapter of NCAN as the National President†“Although NCAN had been having leadership problems in recent time, for instance I took over from Mr Tola Basheru who came into office in 20011 and handed over to me in 2021, haven stayed ten years in office, contrary to the constitution of NCANâ€. Ajanaku added The Vice Chairman of the Association, Kogi State Chapter, Mr Musa Shuaibu, also confirmed to journalists that there was no such move by the Association, stressing that Mr. Ajanaku remained the president. “I unbehalf of Kogi State Chapter of NCAN debunk the news of a new interim president of the association, there is no such gathering where such decision was reached, actually the chairman of NCAN Kogi State is late, so right now we are planning to conduct an election that will bring in another chairmanâ€. Shuaibu said The Kogi State Chapter of the Association had earlier issued a press statement, alleging the endorsement of Mr. Stephen Ahiaba, as an interim national president of NCAN. The statement claims that the tenure of Mr. Ajanaku ended on the 30th of last month.
