n Ivorian delegation led by Prime Minister Patrick Achi took part in the 8th edition of the Tokyo International Conference on Development in Africa (TICAD), from August 26 to 28, 2022. Accompanied by the Minister of State, Minister of Affairs, African Integration and the Diaspora, Kandia Camara, the Minister of Planning and Development, Nialé Kaba and the Minister of Equipment and Road Maintenance, Amédé Koffi Kouakou, the Head of Government took part to the various works of Ticad 8. Alongside her activities, the Minister of Planning and Development participated in the Economic Forum on the theme “Industrialization and economic diversification in Africaâ€. Nialé Kaba took advantage of this opportunity to present the economic dynamism of Côte d'Ivoire, "Côte d'Ivoire is: a population of approximately 29 million inhabitants, a GDP of 60 billion US dollars of which 22% come from the industrial sector, a primary sector which continues to occupy an important place (approximately 20% of GDP) despite a nascent industry which the State is working to support and strengthen. This means that Côte d'Ivoire, like most African countries, is facing the challenge of structural transformation of its economy, even if it turned out to be very dynamic with an average annual growth of 8% over the period 2012-2019â€, specifies the Ivorian economist. This forum being the first after the covid 19 pandemic, Nialé Kaba returned to the resilience of Côte d'Ivoire in the face of this pandemic before setting out the country's ambitions, "The Covid 19 pandemic and the Russian-Ukrainian crisis showed a certain resilience of the Ivorian economy with a growth rate of 2% in 2020 and 7% in 2021. They also showed the need to go further in its structural transformation, by further processing our raw materials on site (cocoa, cashew, rubber, cotton, mining products, etc.), and by expanding the country's industrial base,†said the Minister of Planning and Development. For her, "it is this strategy reflected in the National Development Plan (PND 2021-2025) which projects an average annual GDP growth rate of 7.65%, with significant socio-economic investments, at a cost overall 100 billion USD, of which three quarters are expected from the private sector. This shows how much the private sector is placed at the heart of our medium-term development strategy,†she adds. Minister Nialé Kaba did not fail to mention the attractiveness of Côte d'Ivoire, in particular the cross-cutting actions relating to the strengthening and upgrading of human capital, the development of infrastructure to support investment ( energy, industrial zones, roads, etc.), the improvement of the business climate, as well as specific incentive measures complementary to the investment code, initiated by the Government in recent years, with a view to accelerating the processing of cocoa and cashew. Finally, she reiterated the invitation issued by our Prime Minister to the Japanese private sector to take advantage of the strong growth dynamic and invest in Côte d'Ivoire. Long before this Forum, the Minister of Planning and Development exchanged with the President of the Japan External Trade Organization (JETRO), Sasaki Nabuhiko, a meeting during which she expressed her gratitude to the organization for all the efforts undertaken for strengthening economic and commercial ties between Africa and Japan. With the President of JETRO, it was agreed to set up a collaboration framework between the Ministry of Planning and Development and the JETRO Abidjan office to remove bottlenecks to co-investment and direct investment. Note that Ticad was created in 1993 by the Japanese government. This Forum, organized with the collaboration of the United Nations, the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) and the African Union Commission (AUC), is devoted to the development of Africa.
