  • South Africa-Ivory Coast Business Forum: Minister Amadou Coulibaly visits the premises of the MTN Group and the company TELKOM SA 08/01/2022

    he Minister of Communication and the Digital Economy, also Government Spokesperson, Mr. Amadou Coulibaly, led a strong ministerial delegation to the premises of the MTN Group and the company TELKOM SA, as part of the official visit carried out by the Head of State, Alassane Ouattara, in South Africa, from July 20 to 23, 2022. On the sidelines of this official visit by the Head of State, the Minister of Communication and Digital Economy, accompanied by other members of the government, had a working session with the leaders of the MTN Group at its headquarters in Africa of the South to soak up more of its abilities. To experience the technological advances of this large group, the delegation visited the premises of its DATA CENTER. It appears from this field visit that this center was built to help companies eliminate their costs of installing IT infrastructure and data centers. Taking advantage of this presence in South Africa, the minister participated in the inauguration of a cybercrime agency. This meeting taught him about the importance of such unity in the digital sphere. Minister Amadou COULIBALY also visited the premises of TELKOM SA, a provider of Internet, telecom and other solutions digital services. This visit was extended to the monitoring service of the global network housed within TELKOM SA. At the end of these field visits rich in lessons, the Minister welcomed these great digital advances on African soil and noted that this bodes well for the future for the digital sector in Côte d'Ivoire. In addition to company visits, the Ivorian delegation led by the Government Spokesperson participated in five (05) round tables led by the Ivorian and South African businessmen on industrial cooperation in the value chain of rubber, automotive, cocoa, coffee, cashew, the textile industry, ICT (Information and Communication Technologies) and infrastructure financing. The 2022 edition of the South Africa-Côte d'Ivoire Business Forum was held around the theme "accelerating trade and investment between South Africa and Côte d'Ivoire through strengthened partnerships", on Friday July 22, 2022, in Pretoria, South Africa, at the Center for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), in the presence of President Alassane OUATTARA and his counterpart South African, Cyril RAMAPHOSA. 233 businessmen including 70 Ivorian business leaders took part in this 2022 edition, at the end of which six (06) agreements were signed by the two Heads of State, particularly in the areas of mining, transport and social development, with the key to the establishment of a development plan for the automobile industry. As a reminder, trade between South Africa and Côte d'Ivoire is accumulated at three (03) billion US dollars (1,500 billion FCFA) over the period from 2017 to 2021. The two Heads of State invite therefore the business community of the two countries to invest more in order to increase the volume of trade.
