A first wave of 9 cashew processing units out of 13 received American FSMA (Food Safety Modernization Act) certification. This precious sesame opens the doors to the vast American market for them to export their cashew kernels. The presentation of the certificates, which took place on Tuesday April 5, 2022, comes after a rigorous selection process that began on May 17, 2021. Each of the 13 industries was first subjected to theoretical training on HACCP standards (System of hazard analysis and critical control points) and PCQI (qualified person in preventive control). Then there was an audit phase. Then an evaluation on the implementation of the corrective measures prescribed by the audit. At the end of the program orchestrated by the American firm Ivory Cashew, which specializes in the certification and trade of high-quality cashew kernels, 9 fully met the requirements. These good “students†have received their FSMA certificates in food safety. With these certificates which greatly open up the demanding American market to Ivorian cashew kernels, the expression “ Ivory Coast origin must now rhyme with quality â€, insisted Adama Coulibaly, the boss of the cotton and cashew sectors. The same satisfaction came from the Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, Kobenan Adjoumani, present at the ceremony with his colleague from Trade and Industry, Souleymane Diarrassouba. A second wave of 10 industrial units are being assessed by American experts led by Nancy Scharlach, president and technical director of the FSMA. No doubt some of them will be added to the list of 9 already admitted, namely SG Agro (Yamoussoukro) with its 20,000 tons of annual processing capacity, Dorado Ivory (Toumodi) 20,000 tons, STNC (Abidjan-Yopougon) 6,000 tons , CI Cajou (Dabakala) 10,000 tons, Cilagri Cajou (Abidjan-Vridi) 30,000 tons, Ivory Cashew Nuts (Bouaké) 15,000 tons, Food's Co (Béoumi) 15,000 tons, Quang Thien Imex (Abidjan-Yopougon) 10,000 tons, Cita (Yamoussoukro) ) 6,000 tons. These companies alone account for 50% of the total volume of cashew nuts processed in Côte d'Ivoire.
