For a smooth running of the campaign, recalls the Minister of Industry and Trade, Shadiya Alimatou Assouman, the government adopted, on March 30, 2022, in the Council of Ministers, the draft decree on the conditions for the running of the campaign in accordance with to the proposals made by the players in the cashew sector. “The minimum purchase price to producers is 350 CFA francs per kilogram and the campaign runs from April 1 to October 30, 2022. The government has taken the necessary measures for the success of this campaign, This is a great day for producers in Benin in general and particularly for those in the cashew sector, said the Minister of Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries. According to him, the government's unprecedented commitment testifies to the development of the cashew sector, which has been gaining momentum since 2017. Gaston Cossi Dossouhoui informs that it is in this wake that the production report for the current campaign indicates more of 190,000 tons, thus posting an increase of more than 37% compared to the 2020-2021 campaign for which the production obtained was 137,926 tons. For the current campaign, the government, through its ministerial department, has taken steps to facilitate the establishment of 20,000 ha of new plantations from high-performance plants and support the rehabilitation of 70,000 ha of old plantations to increase production potential. The Minister of Agriculture informs that between 2021 and 2026, the implementation of a National Program for the Development of Plantations and Field Crops is planned, which aims to develop, among other things, 500,000 ha of plantations. cashew tree, then to develop new types of agricultural enterprises by relying on the State as the driving force behind this dynamic through structuring investments. To this, he adds the ambition of local processing of all raw nuts and that of the recovery of by-products. It should be noted that these government strategies, according to Gaston Dossouhoui, aim to develop agricultural sectors so that they contribute more to Benin's gross domestic product.
