In Benin, the cashew nut sector, which represents the agricultural sector's second source of export currency, is emerging from three consecutive campaigns of falling raw material purchase prices. In Benin, the farm gate price per kilogram of cashew nuts was set at 350 FCFA in 2021/2022. This was indicated by the government following the Council of Ministers held on Wednesday 30 March. This amount is up by 50 FCFA compared to the price of the previous season and marks the first revaluation for three years. This new campaign will open on Friday April 1 in the commune of Bassila located in the north of the country and will end on October 31. "  The Minister of Industry and Trade and the Minister of Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries will ensure the smooth running of the campaign as well as the control and certification of weighing instruments in order to preserve interest of producers  ,†the executive statement read. Although the authorities have not given production forecasts for the new season, many observers estimate that the harvest should be between 130,000 and 150,000 tonnes. In Benin, cashew cultivation employs 200,000 people. The country is one of the main suppliers of the raw material in the West African sub-region along with Côte d'Ivoire, Nigeria and Guinea-Bissau.
