The state government has decided to fix floor price of cashew at Rs 105/kg, and it will be procured through cooperative societies. The decision was taken in the meeting presided by minister for law, industries and coir P Rajeeve. Cooperation minister VN Vasavan, Kerala State Cashew Development Corporation (KSCDC) chairman S Jayamohan and other officials also attended the meeting. Rajeeve said that prices are subject to increase or decrease based on the quality of the cashews. He also informed that a discussion with agricultural minister was conducted to make available the cashew from the Plantation Corporation. At present most factories in Kerala rely on exports for cashew nuts with husks. The objective is to procure maximum amount of local cashews with shells to public sector entities like KSCDC and Cashew Workers Apex Industrial Co-operative Society (Capex). This in turn will give better price for the cultivators. Aralam farm is from where best quality shelled cashews are available. The KSCDC last year had launched cashew from this farm as a special brand in the market.
