The members of the cashew sector monitoring committee of the Dimbokro regional delegation denounced, on Tuesday, February 1 , 2022, during a workshop in Yamoussoukro the leak of part of the local production and invited the magistrates to a better appreciation of the situation. During their discussions on the difficulties encountered during the 2021 campaign, several speakers testified to cases of acquittal of traffickers on the grounds that they were apprehended within national borders even though their routes were "visibly devoid of all logicâ€. This is particularly the case of trucks coming from Daoukro for example, leaving for the port of Abidjan and which were intercepted at Niablé. In 2021, Côte d'Ivoire exceeded the bar of one million tonnes of cashew nuts, i.e. a quarter of world production. It holds about 40% of the world export supply with 900,000 t. The sector generates around CFAF 500 billion in income for producers for an overall turnover estimated at CFAF 650 billion. The director general of the cotton-cashew council, Dr. Coulibaly Adama, stressed during a meeting in Yamoussoukro that these figures should be taken with a grain of salt, taking into account that part of the local production takes illegal paths. The Yamoussoukro workshop is part of a set of scattered encounters in the main cashew production areas. Their objective is to share the results of the 2021 campaign, to standardize practices in the field, to equip all the statutory members of the monitoring committees with a view to effectively monitoring domestic marketing.
