  • The Cotton and Cashew Council in front of the CESEC 07/26/2021

    Guest of the forum '' The great meetings of the CESEC '', the director general of the Cotton and Cashew Council, Dr Adama Coulibaly, presented on Friday July 16, 2021, his organization and the opportunities of the two sectors in front of the members of the Economic, Social, Environmental and Cultural Council (CESEC), in the presence of its president, Dr Eugène Aka Aouélé. In his communication, Dr Coulibaly explained that the State decided to create by decree in 2013, the Council of Regulation, Monitoring and Development of the cotton and cashew sectors in short the Council of Cotton and Cashew, to take the relay of the Cotton and Cashew Regulatory Authority (ARECA) in the establishment and monitoring of a regulatory framework and an environment allowing to optimize the incomes of producers and other actors of the cotton sectors and Cashew nut. Regarding the opportunities of the cashew sector, Dr Adama Coulibaly stressed that this speculation is the source of substantial income for the rural populations of the North and the Center of the country. “There are over 400,000 cashew producers. It is more than 1,400,000 Ha of production area with a production of more than 900,000 tons in 2021. It represents more than 20% of world production and cashew nut is the second agricultural export product after cocoa. . (…) Côte d'Ivoire is the world's leading producer and exporter of raw nuts, ”said the Director General of the Cotton and Cashew Council. As for potential, the cotton sector remains a strategic sector because of its significant contribution to the development of the Center and North regions of the country, according to Dr Adama Coulibaly. “These are 132,268 cotton producers in 2020-2021, including 70% of producers in harnessed cultivation mode. (…) There were 237,708 tonnes of cotton fiber in 2020-2021 and 287,665 tonnes of cottonseed. Our production represents more than 20% of West African production in 2021. Cotton is the fourth agricultural export product for Côte d'Ivoire, ”he said. Ivorian ports also ensure the export of African cotton, revealed Dr Coulibaly, noting that 70% of the cotton seed of Côte d'Ivoire is exported to neighboring countries. Alongside this, he spoke about investment opportunities in the cotton and cashew sectors. "At the level of the cashew nut sector, there is the availability of raw material and labor with an investment code favorable to private initiative throughout the chain and favorable taxation for locally processed products", informed the director general of the Council of cotton and cashew nut. In the cotton sector, Côte d'Ivoire has a long experience in the cotton industry and a good organization of private actors through the Interprofession. This sector benefits from the constant support of the State through grants and projects. Without forgetting an investment code favorable to private initiative throughout the value chain and particularly to the installation of industrial units. There are also investment opportunities in a textile free zone in Bouaké.
