  • Cashew exports are still facing difficulties due to lack of transport ships 05/10/2021

    May 10th, 2021

According to the Vietnam Cashew Association (VINACAS), the price of cashew kernels increased at the end of April with many customers asking to buy. Because the buyers clearly saw that the cashew processing factories could not buy cheap raw cashew nuts but had to follow the market price, they had to increase the kernel price to buy goods. Meanwhile, the amount of raw cashew nut harvested gradually decreased, the quality decreased rapidly due to heavy rain and pests. West African raw cashew still increased due to low offers. Large quantities of West African raw cashews are held by several large companies. Many shipments in March - April have not announced delivery yet. The owner said that the transport and delivery situation was difficult due to the lack of sacks, lack of ships ... This makes many factories worried about their contracts to buy raw cashew. Some factories have had to accept price increases for some small sellers to get the goods. Factories are still struggling with deliveries due to lack of space on board. Sellers are applying to extend some low-priced contracts as they cannot buy high-priced local cashew kernels for timely delivery. The machine owners are waiting for more African raw cashew nuts to be imported to make the domestic kernel more abundant in the hope that the price will cool down. Some US customers have not yet bought more because they are not sure how to get a seat on the ship. They focus on dealing with shipping lines to get backlogged shipments signed before. They do not want to sign more with roasters and supermarkets because they feel the risks of freight, transit time, and space on board to deliver on time to their customers. According to statistics from the General Department of Customs, cashew nut exports in March reached 44.6 thousand tons, worth $ 259.48 million, up 102.9% in volume and 103.4 % in value compared to February. Generally, in the first quarter, cashew exports reached 112.2 thousand tons, worth US$657.13 million, up 17.4% in volume, but down 2.4% in value over the same period in 2020. In March, the average export price of cashew nuts reached $5,817/ton, up 0.3% compared to February, but down 17.4% compared to March 2020.
