Bouaké, the agro-industrial unit of the Olam group, located in Bouaké, launched a large-scale cashew buying operation on Saturday, strictly respecting the field price set at 400 FCFA. This operation, which is part of the government's support plan for the cashew sector hard hit by the health crisis linked to COVID-19, took place in the village of Wamela-Kouassiklokro (about 15km from Sakassou » under the supervision of an agent of the cotton and cashew council (CCA). “The State provides financial support of around 35 billion FCFA to enable operators in the cashew sector, in particular, exporters and factory owners, to capture the production still available, which is estimated at around 350,000 tonnes. And Olam is fully in line with the spirit of this plan in order to allow producers to get more out of their labor, ”said Olam-Bouaké's assistant purchasing manager, Adingra Constant. The central sub-prefect of Sakassou, Yao Konan Mathurin, who took part in this ceremony, welcomed the choice made in the locality of Wamela-Kouassiklokro which is part of his administrative district to start this "important operation". The civil administrator, who expressed his gratitude to the officials of Olam-Bouaké, underlined the importance of such an initiative which comes to relieve a little bit the producers, who confronted with the poor sales of their productions, are sometimes obliged to sell them to crooked buyers at low prices "trivializing suddenly the enormous sacrifices made by them". He urged them to extend this action to all the villages in his constituency so as to prevent these crooked buyers from thriving.
