<p>The company, Valley of Macs, owned by Dutch, British, US and Mozambican capital, currently produces 120 tons of nuts a year in Serra Choa, in Barue district. But company manager Antonio Gera told reporters this is just the start.</p> <p>Current annual production, of around 120 tons, is enough for ten containers, but Gera hopes to fill fifty containers a year by 2016/2017, which will be about 1,000 tons. He said the markets for the nuts are China, Hong Kong and Vietnam. When exports reach 1,000 tons, the company expects its revenue to be in the order of 3.7 million US dollars a year.</p> <p>Valley of Macs began its activities in Serra Choa in 2006. Its plantation covers 600 hectares, of which 224 hectares are now in use, containing a total of 70,000 plants. The company has so far invested 6.5 million dollars out of a planned eight million.</p> <p>“Right now, we are doing everything we can to comply with our production plan”, declared Gera.</p> <p>President Armando Guebuza visited the undertaking last month, as part of his open and inclusive presidency in Manica. At the time Gera stressed that to attract more investment to the region, the roads must be improved.</p> <p>Gera wanted to see a new road built linking the district capital, Catandica, to Serra Choa, a distance of 30 kilometres. “This would open horizons for investment in other areas where Serra Choa has potential,” he said, “not only agriculture, but also tourism and the production of mineral water”.</p> <p> </p>
