  • ADB Invest $40m in cashew nuts..

    <p>The African Development Bank -ADB-will this year invest about 40 million US dollars into the production of Cashew nuts in Western province.Jacqueline Siulemba ADB Principal Country Program Officer Philip Boahen says though the investment is still On paper, the bank wants to help create employment for the people in the province.Mr. Boahen told ZNBC news in Mongu that the deal is expected to be clinched by December this year. He said the funds will be used to re-capitalize the production of Cashew nuts which has not been done for many years.Mr. Boahen says the funds will also help in the rehabilitation of the Cashew nut plants and engaging some local farmers who are expected to produce the nuts.He added that the production of cashew nut in the province will help improve the living standards of the people in the area, as jobs will be created once the programme kicks off. Meanwhile, Mongu Municipal council has requested for financial assistance from government to help build a modern civic centre.Presenting the request to Local Government Minister John Phiri, Mongu Mayor Bright Tombi says the council is facing challenges in finding office space for some of its workers as the current place cannot accommodate all of them. Mr. Tombi also said his officers find it difficult to operate as they have no transport to reach out to the outskirts of the district.And Dr. Phiri says government will ensure that workers operate in a conducive environment.He says despite the workers at Mongu municipality facing challenges, he was happy that they are still determined to execute their duties diligently.Dr. Phiri assured the workers from the local authority that their plight will be resolved.<br></p>
