  • Central Team Visit on Farm Growth

    <p>BHUBANESWAR:A Central team from the Union Agriculture Ministry will visit Odisha soon to interact with the State Government officials on different aspects to improve the sector. &nbsp;The team, to be headed by an Additional Secretary rank official, will among other things, discuss with Government officials the enhanced allocation for cashew plantation in the State from the directorate of Cashew and Cocoa Development (DCCD). Official sources said 1.6 lakh hectares (ha) of land are under cashew plantation in the State with an annual production of 1.1 lakh tonne. Production in more than 50 per cent of the existing cashew plantation in Odisha has gone down and many plantations were damaged by cyclone Phailin in 2013. In his meeting with Union Agriculture Minister Radha Mohan Singh at New Delhi during his last visit, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik had raised several issues, including cut in allocation for several schemes by the Centre.<br></p>
