  • Ivory Coast decides a CFAF 30 tax on cashew exports

    <p>A tax of FCFA 30 (&euro; 0.05) will be levied on every kilo of exported cashew nuts, the government of C&ocirc;te d&#39;Ivoire announced yesterday. &quot;This tax is flexible for each campaign so as to take into account the real performance of the sector and the need to maintain its balance,&quot; said the spokesman of the government, Minister Bruno Kon&eacute;, after a Council of Ministers.</p> <p>This tax revenue will go to the sustainable development of the sector, more precisely &quot;to the financing of the activities of the competitiveness of the whole value chain as well as to the support of the structuring of the sector&quot;.C&ocirc;te d&#39;Ivoire, the world&#39;s No. 1 cashew nut, accounts for 25% of global production and 40% of world exports. In 2016, it harvested 649,587 tonnes (t) of cashew nuts and locally processed 40,383 tonnes, or 6%.The indicative purchase price at the edge of the field is FCFA 440 (&euro; 0.67) per kilo for this current 2017/18 campaign.</p>
