<p>A tax of FCFA 30 (€ 0.05) will be levied on every kilo of exported cashew nuts, the government of Côte d'Ivoire announced yesterday. "This tax is flexible for each campaign so as to take into account the real performance of the sector and the need to maintain its balance," said the spokesman of the government, Minister Bruno Koné, after a Council of Ministers.This tax revenue will go to the sustainable development of the sector, more precisely "to the financing of the activities of the competitiveness of the whole value chain as well as to the support of the structuring of the sector".Côte d'Ivoire, the world's No. 1 cashew nut, accounts for 25% of global production and 40% of world exports. In 2016, it harvested 649,587 tonnes (t) of cashew nuts and locally processed 40,383 tonnes, or 6%.The indicative purchase price at the edge of the field is FCFA 440 (€ 0.67) per kilo for this current 2017/18 campaign.</p>
