• Vietnam: Binh Phuoc boosts agriculture and forestry exports

    Jan 16th, 2013

Over the past years, thanks to its geographical location, Binh Phuoc Province has specialized in growing rubber, pepper, cashew nuts and coffee which have brought high economic returns to local farmers and contributed to the provincial socioeconomic development.

Cashew nuts are one of Binh Phuoc’s key products, with 148,020 hectares devoted to the crop and annual harvest output of 150,592 tonnes. However, in fact, there are almost no direct business contracts between enterprises and growers, instead relations are conducted through middle men instead. Several Agriculture Cooperatives are providing input materials to cashew nut growers in return for guaranteed sales contracts, however this rate is very low, only five percent.
