The Kogi State Commissioner for Agriculture, Mr Kehinde Oloruntoba, has said that arrangements were being perfected for the Federal Government to establish a 10,000 hectare of cashew plantation in the state. He disclosed this recently when he led a delegation on a working visit to the palace of the Attah Igala, His Majesty, Dr Idakwo Michael Ameh Oboni II, at Idah, Kogi State.

According to him, the proposed plantation which is located in Ofu Local Government Area of the state, is in view of the comparative advantage the state has recorded over the years as the best producer of cashew nuts in Nigeria. He said that actual planting would begin before the end of the year, adding that arrangements have also been concluded towards establishing a cashew processing factory in Anyigba, in the state to avoid the current practice of selling the produce at giveaway prices to buyers who used it for various products.

Earlier, the Attah Igala had commended the present administration for its developmental strides in the state, especially in various parts of Igalaland and Kogi State as a whole, saying the area has never had it so good since the creation of the state.
