  • Goa to host cashew summit

    <p>The Cashew Export Promotion Council of India will organise the fifth global cashew summit, &#39;Kaju India,&#39; in Goa from September 17 to 19. The main attraction of the summit, to be inaugurated by Goa Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar, will be a machinery exhibition to promote mechanisation of indigenous processing in the state. The summit is being held outside Kerala for the first time to realise the developments taking place in other parts of the country and to project the national importance of cashew industry.</p> <p>400 delegates from the country have registered for the summit and over 20 overseas delegates from abroad, including USA, Europe, Japan, Canada, West Asia and the African region, will attend it. The summit will honour top industrialists with the export excellence award and certificates. Five foreign nationals and six Indians will be honoured for their outstanding performance. Union Minister for Commerce and Industry, Suresh Prabhu, Kerala Cashew Minister Mercykutty Amma, and Mr N.K. Premachandran MP will attend the summit. The CEPCI has submitted a roadmap to the central government to increase the production of raw cashew nuts in the country to 20 lakh metric tonnes by 2025.</p> <p><strong>Export increased</strong></p> <p>According to the statistics with the CEPCI, the export of raw cashew from the country has gone up. During April &ndash; July 2016, the export of cashew kernels was 24,981 MT while it has increased to 31, 172 MT during the same period in 2017. The import of cashew kernels during April &ndash; July 2016 was 1,305 MT which dropped to 1,063 MT during April &ndash; July 2017.</p>
