• Cashews: Awareness-raising mission on improving the quality of raw nuts

    May 22nd, 2017

The quality of the raw cashew nut remains the determining factor of its selling price. It deals with graining, defect and moisture, and almond yield called KOR (Kernel Outturn Ratio). All result from production, harvesting and post-harvest processing. Awareness-raising of actors on good improvement practices was selected as a main activity to be implemented during this 2017 campaign.

From 23 to 27 May, the management of the regulatory body will lead a campaign in four major localities: Bouaké, Korhogo, Odienné and Séguéla. All, large production areas. In these cities, producers will be kept on the need to market only well dried and well sorted nuts. Same for buyers and exporters, who will be invited to focus only on these products.

The quality of the Ivorian cashew remains the major challenge for the authorities of the country. The sustainability of the sector depends on it. Aware of this, the Cotton and Cashew Council (CCA) set up a platform bringing together actors from different levels of the value chain (producers, buyers, processors, freight forwarders, institutional actors, etc.). Its mission: to reflect on how the quality of the nut produced in Côte d'Ivoire can be improved. It is this platform that has identified awareness of good practices as the main activity to be implemented. Choice approved by the regulatory body.
