<p>The out-going 2014 is a good year for Nigeria's cashew producers, as they have enjoyed optimum harvest and great sales, with more exciting promises in the years ahead.This was disclosed by the National Public Relations Officer of the National Cashew Association of Nigeria, Sotonye Anga, who said that Nigeria's current annual production volume of cashew nuts alone is 120,000 metric tonnes.</p> <p>Anga is, however, optimistic that the renewed interest of the Federal Government on the sector may pop the volume by more than triple fold in coming years.In his presentation online, the cashew association spokesperson said the crops, which was initially grown in Nigeria to control erosion, has become an economic tree in Nigeria.Speaking further, Anga also disclosed to News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) that most of the cashews produced during the year were sold.He said that would be the first time farmers would record bumper harvests and sold all."This year has been one of the best years for the cashew industry. To the association, the traders, farmers and processors, this is good news.</p> <p>"The improved cultivation and the simple drying process applied gave rise to quality cashew."This year, the drying method applied, boosted the value chains of the commodity," Anga said.He assured that the next cashew season would begin in February 2015.According to him, the association would further drive quality management initiative for production.He remarked that the quality of cashew needed to be improved consistently in order to give Nigerian brand, a global acceptance that would attract good prices.</p> <p> </p>
