<p></p><p>Farmers in the North Gonja District of the Northern Region have received cashew seedlings to improve and increase cashew production in the area.</p> <p>The beneficial farmers, 100 from various farming communities across the district received 10,000 seedlings of cashew under the planting for export and industrialization policy. </p><p>Distributing the grafted cashew seedlings to farmers, the District Chief Executive of North Gonja, Hon Illiasu Bawa noted that, the distribution forms part of the Nana Addo’s 10-year Cashew Development Plan to increase Cashew production and bring development to the doorstep of the rural communities. </p><p>He added that, the program is in line with Government’s policy for rural development under Planting for Export and Industrialization, where all 216 Metropolitan, Municipal and District Chief Executives have been given the oversight responsibility for the production of not only cashew seedlings, but also for seedlings of oil palm, shea, cotton, rubber, and coffee, for distribution to farmers. </p><p>Hon Bawa emphasized that, the cashew development initiative just the like the government planting for food and jobs flagship programme, aimed at diversifying the country's agriculture sector.</p><p>He explained that, under the project, farmers will not only received free seedlings but will be supported technically for a successful cashew production in the district. </p><p>The North Gonja DCE also popularly known in political circles as Red Bawa touted government initiatives of creating avenues to improve the Agriculture sector and invest in people especially the rural poor farmer. </p><p>Hon Red Bawa urged farmers in the area to take advantage of the various Agricultural interventions and incentives to increase production and improve their livelihoods. </p><p>The DCE for North Gonja again urged the beneficial farmers not to hesitate to contact his office for any assistance to ensure that the cashew project succeed. </p><p>The beneficial farmers expressed their profound gratitude to the government for the initiative and thus promise to work very hard to increase cashew production in the district.</p><p><br></p><p></p>
