• CEPCI to open office for Odisha cashew export

    Dec 9th, 2019

In order to promote Odisha cashew for exports, the Cashew Export Promotion Council of India (CEPCI) will open its first Regional Office in Bhubaneswar soon. CEPCI Chairman RK Bhoodes held several rounds of discussion with the senior officials of the State Government here on December 6. Dr Bhoodes, who was on Odisha visit, met Secretary MSME, Hemant Sharma, Principal Secretary Agriculture, Saurabh Garg and other senior officials. The Department of MSME is promoting cashew clusters with common facility centres. While Odisha is second largest producer of cashew, export from the State is nonexistent. In order to make each and every cashew processor an exporter, the CEPCI is opening its Regional Office in the State, said Dr Bhdoodes.

Odisha is producing nearly 1 lakh ton of cashew, having two cashew clusters at Ganjam and Puri. Dr Bhoodes visited the cashew cluster in Ganjam and talked to the processors, who are very much interested for taking up exports. Cashew processors in Odisha have also sought steps for export of their products. The CEPCI will provide training and make the product more competitive so that Odisha cashew reaches the foreign land. Another two clusters are coming up at Gajapati and Khurda districts, which will promote cashew processing and exports.
Odisha is the third largest State in cashew cultivation, production and processing, processors are unable to export a single kilogram to other countries. Interestingly the cashew processors from States like Kerala and Karnataka are exporting the products of Odisha and receiving huge profits, a cashew processor said.
