  • Cashew sector gets a boost

    <p></p><p>By giving public sector cashew factories a modern makeover, the government aims to accelerate production and ensure maximum working days for the labourers, said Minister for Fisheries and Cashew Industry J. Mercykutty Amma here on Monday.</p> <p>Inaugurating a renovated Capex cashew factory at Perumpuzha, she added an extra 1,000 labourers would be accommodated in the sector this year. “We hope to ensure at least 200 working day in the factories run by the Kerala State Cashew Workers Apex Industrial Cooperative Society (Capex) and Kerala State Cashew Development Corporation (KSCDC),” she said. </p><p>Stay united </p><p>The Minister urged labour unions to stay united for the sound functioning of public sector factories. “Steps have been taken to make marketing more competent and the government plans to explore all possibilities to make the industry profitable,” she said. As part of renovation, the public sector factories would be equipped with modern cutting machines and electric bormas. </p><p>Complete computerisation, CCTV system installation, modernisation of the packing and filling units would also be carried out as part of this. Minister T.P. Ramakrishnan presided over the function and N.K. Premachandran, MP, inaugurated the new CCTV system in the factory. Capex chairman S. Sudevan, KSCDC chairman S. Jayamohan and Mukhathala block panchayat president S. Rajeev were present on the occasion.  </p><p> </p><p></p>
