  • Cashew industry on the brink: KSCDC chief

    Feb 11th, 2018

Blames it on customs duty for RCN imports and cheaper processed nuts from abroad The inflow of processed cashew from Vietnam and the customs duty imposed on raw cashew nut (RCN) have left the cashew sector totally crippled, said Kerala State Cashew Development Corporation (KSCDC) chairman S. Jayamohan here on Saturday. “A complete rollback of the duty is required to save the industry along with some urgent measures to help the factory owners who are deep in debt,” he said. Another challenge for the sector is to procure RCN which can be locally processed and sold after value-addition. Only a small per cent of raw cashew nuts is available in the State and the rest are imported,he said.
