  • Soon a new cashew processing plant in Guinea

    <p>The United States Agency for International Development (USAID) and AngloGold Ashanti Mining Mining Company of Guinea (SAG) signed a Memorandum of Understanding in Conakry the day before yesterday on the $ 3 million financing for the project. This three-year project is aimed primarily at women and youth: " About 500 permanent jobs and 2,000 indirect jobs will be created through cashew culture and the entire value chain ", says Abdourahamane Diaby, director general of SAG.</p> <p>This project aims to set up an cashew nut processing plant, with the support of more than 3,000 cashew farmers by building the capacity of their organizations, access to quality inputs, credit This will bring added value through the plant and local processing of cashew nuts produced in the Siguiri region. " Our colleagues are just going to take care of the training to help these farmers to better program themselves, to work better, to enrich their patrimonies [...]. Today, we have local varieties that do not have a great yield .</p> <p>The long-term goal of this project is also to make the mining sector a catalyst for the development of other sectors such as agriculture. The cashew processing plant will therefore be the second in the country following the formalization last February of a first unit (Read: First industrial unit processing cashew in Guinea ).</p> Cashew production in the country is 70,000 tons and is expected to increase to 220,000 tons by 2025 through the government seed support and distribution program. The development of cashew culture is one of two presidential initiatives, alongside coffee, launched since 2016. <br><p></p>
