<p></p><p> The Kerala Government today asked the Centre to take steps to check import of broken grade cashew from Vietnam and Brazil, holding that its large-scale flow into the domestic market had affected the sector in the state. </p><p>In a letter to the Commerce Minister, Anand Sharma, the state’s Industries Minister, P K Kunhalikutty said the cashew industry in Kerala was facing a crisis due to concessions granted by the Centre. </p><p>He requested the Centre to consider the request of the Cashew Manufacturers Association to impose duty on import of cashew kernel. </p><p>Kunhalikutty said that the crisis in the sector would affect the livelihood of more than 3 lakh women employed in the sector. </p><p> </p><br><p></p>
