GHANA is expected to increase its production of raw cashew nuts (RCN) by 5% in 2012 to 49 000 tons, with over 98% of this volume exported. In 2011, the country shipped 280 834 tons of RCN valued at USD379 million, up from 82 732 tons in MY 2010.

According to a recent USDA report, Ghanaian RCN is mainly exported to India and Vietnam for further processing. Government of Ghana (GOG) sources claim that high export numbers for RCN are due to imports of RCN from neighbouring countries, especially the Ivory Coast and Burkina Faso. Very small quantities of raw kernels remain in Ghana.
