Business people from Binh Thuoc in Vietnam have been expressing interest in cashew nut production in in Nampula province, Mozambique. The Vietnamese investment project would include the planting of 50,000 cashew trees as well as the construction of a cashew processing plant. Most of the province;s current cashew trees are at an advanced age and the younger planting will be a welcome addition. It is though the techniques used for the cultivation could increase the average yield from 8 kilos per tree, to 20 kilos. The processing factory will have a capacity of 10,000 tons of nuts per year. The province's current yield is around 40,000 tons per year and the existing facilities are insufficient to cope with this.
