<p>New Mangalore Port Trust (NMPT) has asked the cashew industry from Karnataka to make use of the facilities at the port.It conducted a trade meet with the members of Karnataka Cashew Manufacturers’ Association (KCMA) in Mangaluru on Tuesday.YR Belagal, Traffic Manager of NMPT, made a presentation on the highlights of the container traffic, especially cashew containers, on the occasion.The handling of cashew containers at New Mangalore Port increased from 8006 TEUs (twenty-foot equivalent units) in 2013-14 to 13,258 TEUs in 2014-15. This worked out to 1.47 lakh tonnes in 2013-14 to 2.35 lakh tonnes in 2014-15.The meeting was informed that New Mangalore Port gets feeder container vessels every four days, which will help move the cargo faster. Expressing happiness over the steady growth in the handling of raw cashew and cashew kernels in the port, Suresh P Shirwadkar, Deputy Chairman of NMPT, requested the cashew industry to make optimum use of the port.A press release by NMPT said here that B Rahul Kamath, President of KCMA, and K Prakash Rao of Kalbhavi Cashews, appreciated the efforts of the port management, Plant Quarantine Department, Customs Department and the labour at the port for their cooperation in handling cashew consignments thorough the port.<br></p>
