Ziguinchor/ Cashew sector: 82,000 tonnes exported in 2021 for a value of 54 billion CFA francs Eighty-two thousand (82,000) tons of cashew nuts were exported from the port of Ziguinchor, for the year 2021 as part of the cashew campaign. This is what emerges from the meeting of the Regional Development Committee (Crd) chaired this Friday, March 18, 2022 in Ziguinchor by the regional governor Guedji Diouf. According to Governor Diouf, this is all the more reason for satisfaction as the 2021 campaign took place in the midst of the Covid-19 pandemic. For him, this tonnage can be evaluated at no less than fifty four billion 54,000,000,000) FCFA; which means that all the players in the sector have found their accounts there. According to Mr. Diouf, if the export of raw cashew nut is a good thing, the best thing would have been for it to have been processed locally before being sold on the national and international market. In the sense that local transformation gives it more value with jobs that are maintained while creating others. For him, because of the lack of cashew processing at the local level, four of the five companies in the sector had to close down. But according to him, there is hope in this direction with the forthcoming opening of the Agropole Sud in Adéane; although the new estimates in terms of cashew nut exports are around one hundred thousand tonnes, for the year 2022.
